Dynamite held an event in September to talk about what qualities young people think that someone should have to work with young disabled people.
We came up with some questions which we think would be good to ask in an interview when someone is applying for a job to work with young people with a disability.
The Dynamite core group then narrowed the list down to 5 questions which we think should be asked in interviews.
1. If you get this job, what are you going to do?
2. What have been your previous work placements, did they involve interaction with disabled young people?
3. Have you worked with young people with special needs before?
4. What kind of person are you and how does this affect your work with young people?
5. How would you communicate with a disabled person?
Some other questions which could Dynamite members suggested at our event were:
- Do you know sign language?
- What qualifications and skills do you have to work with young people?
- Have you worked with different abilities before?
- Do you know how to use specialist equipment?
We would like it if people whose job it is to hire people to work with young people use these questions in interviews.
